DYNAMIC BEAM SHAPING FOR MATERIAL PROCESSING
Dr. Shekel is the founder and CEO of Civan Advanced Technologies – the first company to develop industrial lasers based on Coherent Beam Combining. Prior to Civan, Dr. Shekel founded Cielo, a leading company in the manufacture of Fiber Optical Gyros and navigation systems and Founder and general manager of Chiaro Networks which developed the largest optical switch in the world. Dr. Shekel received his PhD in physics at NYU.
BEAM-SHAPING IN LASER PROCESSING
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Schmidt holds the chair of the Institute of Photonic Technologies since its founding in 2009 at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He received his doctoral degree on the topic “Process control of laser spot welding in electronics production” in 2002. Following his engagement in its executive board, he leads the Bayerisches Laserzentrum GmbH (blz GmbH) as managing director since January 2005. His work ranges from the application of lasers for manufacturing tasks like welding of metal sheet to the use of advanced photonic technologies like hyperspectral imaging for the diagnosis of medical pathologies. As lasers are perfectly suitable for micro and nano-processing, part of his research work focusses on these topics with the application to different materials including glass.
